Damage that a Low- Carb diet is doing to our body

Diet programs like the Atkins diet recommend a low carb diet. Their fundamentals are that the body absorbs the carbohydrates first and then the fat. But if the carbohydrates are less the fat gets absorbed faster. Carbohydrates in a moderate quantity are very important for the body.

The body stores 2.4g of water for every 1 gram of carbohydrate consumed. So very time we cut down on carbs we are cutting down on water intake.

It is popularly believed that carbohydrates are stored as fat. But remember it is only the excess that is stored as fat. Cut down on the EXCESS and you should be fine.

Our brain gets energy in the form of glucose and carbohydrates are the main source of glucose. By cutting down on carbs we are cutting down the energy given to the brain. This is the reason why low carb diets make you feel sluggish in the beginning.

Further it could also lead to slow down our metabolism. The body will start burning fat to consume energy. But it will also take proteins from the muscles which will slow down tissue repair, maintenance and overall metabolism of the body.

The best way to handle this is to eat the good carbs and avoid the bad ones. The refined crabs like white pasta’s, pastries, white bread etc. get digested easily and result in fat accumulation. On the other hand, carbs like whole grain products, brown rice, vegetables take some time to digest and are not responsible for fat accumulation.

To sum it all up carbs are important in a moderate quantity and you could try and overindulge in carbs after a good work out.
